9. Blue Moon
Blue Moon was more than just a cafe. Launched in 1995, it was a popular spot for vegetarians and vegans and famous for its Hommity Pie - a combination of potato, cheese, rosemary and ‘plenty of garlic’. Despite its popularity, the restaurant was forced to shut due to the financial strain caused by the pandemic and cost of living crisis. It was based on St James’ Street next to Sheffield Cathedral.

Simmonite on Division Street was one of the last traditional, independent butchers in the city centre.
It was famous for its big displays of fresh meat and fish and deli items. Open long hours and seven days a week, it survived for 10 years. It closed to make way for a micro-pub. | Other
This Sheffield restaurant worked with vulnerable adults but shut down after running out of money. Blend Kitchen on Ecclesall Road was hit by a drop in custom and income from grants, and higher costs, the trustees said.
Starting out in 2016 as a not-for-profit social enterprise it operated as a pop-up before moving in 2018 to Pinstone Street. After raising £350,000 it opened on Ecclesall Road in April 2021.
