Empty shop on prime Sheffield retail street looks set for well -known new retailer, but only short term

Store set to replace Cardzone, which closed after five years at The Moor

A new retailer looks set to move into the former Cardzone store on one of Sheffield’s prime shopping streets.

But it would appear that the new business that moves into the empty site on The Moor, between The Gym Group and Savers Health and Beauty is only set to be a short term tenant at the site.

Two signs have now appeared on the front of the building, for The Chrismas Shop, a business which has traditionally sprung up in the city centre each year going back to the late 1990s.

There is now a sign in the window for the new shop, as well as sign attached to the wall.

The Christmas Shop said in a statement: “The Christmas Shop Sheffield is returning for another festive season, filled with decorations, gifts, Christmas favourites and plenty of festive magic.”

They had confirmed that their shop would be at a different location to previous years this time, but have not yet made an official announcement of the location. The signs appear to confirm that location.

Last year, the shop was based on Fargate, opposite Marks and Spencer, and Fargate has been its most regular home in recent years.

Cardzone on The Moor closed on Saturday, September 5, after five years operating from the shop.

They ran a series of discounts in the run up to the closure.

Before Cardzone, the shop had previously been home the the city centre’s Game store, selling video games. Game’s town centre store is now inside Sports Direct, also on The Moor.
