MATIQ is the new name for Direct Special Metals Ltd which launched in Sheffield in 2013.

Today, it has a network of recovery facilities across the country.

Matt Hartley, founder and chief operating officer, said: "It is a source of real pride to see what began as a small specialist metals operator in Sheffield in 2013 grow into the platform we have today.

“Our £25m investment in Sheffield in 2024 laid the foundations for this next stage, and the scale of what we are now building at Gateshead reflects the strength of that foundation.”

Anthony Holley, chief executive officer, said they were planning more sites across the UK.

He added: “The launch of MATIQ reflects the scale of the business we have become and the opportunity that lies ahead.

“The award of the Bradford contract and our investment at Gateshead are significant milestones in our growth, strengthening our position as a leading provider of advanced resource recovery infrastructure.

“As expectations around transparency, accountability and recovery performance continue to increase, MATIQ is investing in the infrastructure, technology and capability needed to help customers maximise resource value and support the UK's transition to a more circular economy.”
