Dark Christmas comedy night to raise money for Sheffield homelessness charity
A Sheffield comedy collective is staging a dark alternative to traditional Christmas entertainment in aid of a homelessness charity.
Krampus Comedy Club: Yule Regret This will be held at Abbeydale Ballroom, Sheffield, at 7pm on Sunday, December 13. Tickets are pay what you can, with all proceeds after booking fees going to The Archer Project.
Based at Sheffield Cathedral, the charity provides people experiencing homelessness with hot meals, showers, on-site healthcare, and training and employment support.
The show is presented by The Neils, a comedy collective comprising Donna Houghton, April Louise and Daniel Edwards. Daniel performs as Eddie Lombardo, Donna as Honey Roasted-Parsnips and April as Auntie Enid.
April, who also runs the comedy social enterprise Gags for Good CIC, said: “Comedy has always been about bringing people together and Christmas can be the loneliest, coldest time of year for anyone without a home. The Archer Project is right here in Sheffield doing incredible work every day, so it felt like the obvious choice.”
The event takes its name from Krampus, the menacing figure from European folklore who punishes naughty children at Christmas. Organisers say the adults-only night will offer un-festive stand-up for people seeking a break from the usual seasonal sparkle.
The show contains strong language and dark humour.
