Reimagined Chelsea flower show garden to open in Park Hill

The new community garden will be offically opened today

A multi-award-winning garden from this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show is set to open to the public in Sheffield today, giving residents the chance to enjoy a gold medal-winning design without leaving the city.

The Campaign to Protect Rural England’s On the Edge garden, which won both a Gold Medal and the prestigious Garden of the Year award at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2026, has been permanently relocated to Park Hill.

At the heart of the new community garden is a giant Mother Nature sculpture, created from fallen trees, Derbyshire stone and woven willow.

The striking centrepiece was one of the standout features at Chelsea, where it was seen by visitors including King Charles III and actresses Dame Judi Dench and Dame Joanna Lumley.

Designed by award-winning garden designer Sarah Eberle to celebrate CPRE’s 100th anniversary, the garden explores the importance of “edgelands” - the natural spaces on the edges of towns and cities that help connect people with the countryside.

The Sheffield location was chosen to reflect the city’s links with countryside campaigner Ethel Haythornthwaite, who helped establish Sheffield’s Green Belt and was one of CPRE’s earliest supporters.

The garden has been redesigned as a permanent space for Park Hill residents, with winding paths, native planting and quiet areas for the community to enjoy.

Sarah Eberle, the most decorated British designer in Chelsea Flower Show history, said the garden celebrates “the often-overlooked beauty and importance of everyday spaces, where people and nature coexist.”

CPRE chief executive Roger Mortlock added: “We’re especially excited that the garden will be relocated to Sheffield.”
