Second-half goals from Tom Denton and Jonathan Smith secured a second straight win for the caretaker boss.

The Blues rode their luck after the break with goalkeeper Shwan Jalal making three excellent saves.

Town remain in the National League relegation zone but only on goal difference.

Tom Denton celebrates giving Chesterfield the lead at Eastleigh.

“I thought the first 20 minutes it took us a bit to get going,” Pemberton said.

“I thought after that we were the better team.

"Second-half we started alright and Denton scored a good goal and then we got pinned back.

"I think the mentality sometimes when you get in front is to hang on.

"To be fair to Eastleigh they had us under a lot of pressure second-half.

"They put a lot of balls in the box and we had to defend for our lives and we got a bit of luck but we did.

"And then Smith scores a great goal to put us 2-0 up to give us that little platform.”

He added: "I was desperate for the clean sheet because I think the clean sheet is important to us as a team.

"One of the things that has been thrown at us has been that we have not been resilient. We have shown more of that but there is still work to do.

"They are having a right go and I can't fault their effort and commitment and I am really pleased to get another win."
