Wycombe Wanderers manager makes 'no bones about it' Sheffield Wednesday prediction

The Owls travel to Wycombe Wanderers in League One on Tuesday night...

Wycombe Wanderers manager Michael Duff says his team will get beat by Sheffield Wednesday if they repeat the performance which saw them suffer a heavy defeat last time out.

While The Owls ran riot against Bromley, winning 7-2, Wycombe were on the receiving end of a terrible result, losing 5-1 at Stockport County.

Wednesday manager Henrik Pedersen praised his side for winning the battle against Bromley, but Duff slammed his players for lacking in that department.

“The gulf in performance is based on us not fighting,” he said. “They (Stockport) won every duel, every aerial duel. The stats will tell you they doubled everything in terms of ground duels, aerial duels. I think they blocked five shots. We blocked one. They had seven shots on target. We had five. So they were better than us. I can handle getting beat but I can't handle getting beat like that.

“Every tackle, every 50-50, they won. We were turning 60/40s into 40/60s, and you've got no chance of winning a game of football if you do that. We talk all the time about tactics, technical aspects, all that sort of stuff. It's irrelevant. You need to win your battle against your opponent, and we didn't do that anywhere on the pitch today. This is a hard industry and if you let your opponent dominate you, it doesn't matter what formation you pick.”

He continued in his scathing summary: “We didn't pass the ball, didn't tackle, didn't head it. Ball goes into their front man, it sticks, and they build from there. Ball goes into the front, it bounces off us, and they're attacking again.”

Duff said that he hopes the poor display against Stockport is a ‘one-off’ but that they will suffer again on Tuesday night when The Owls visit Adams Park if they don’t learn from their mistakes.

He added: “They (Wednesday) are a massive club in this league. But it doesn't matter what team you pick, doesn't matter what formation you pick, if they (his players) do that, we'll get beat. No bones about it.”
