The former West Bromwich Albion manager was today appointed as the new Owls manager ahead of a crunch end to the season at Hillsborough, so we took a look at what might be his best XI if everybody was fit and available.
Obviously there are injuries currently and plenty of contracts/loans expiring at the end of the season, but based on the squad alone – and if they’re injury free – they do have the players to play his fluid 4-2-3-1 formation.
He’s also used 4-4-2, 3-5-2 and 3-5-2 up to now, but if we were to go for his preferred fluid 4-2-3-1 with ball-playing midfielders, here’s how he could line up based on what’s available to him going forward.

9. CAM - Izzy Brown
He showed glimpses of what he's capable of in the first half especially against Luton Town. He's smart, has a good eye for a pass and is willing to drive at people. All good attributes for a player sitting behind the striker that's being asked to create and score goals. Photo: Steve Ellis

10. LW - Adam Reach
Though he's been used in a wide variety of different positions during his time at Wednesday, I think few would argue that he's at his most effective when deployed out wide. He's one of the best crosses of the ball at the club, and might benefit from playing a bit further forward. Andre Green could probably come in on either wing, too. Photo: Steve Ellis

11. ST - Josh Windass
Looked very hungry in the first half against Luton, and has got the pace to be a thorn in the side of opposition defences. It could, however, easily be Callum Paterson up top if you're looking for more of a physical element though. Jordan Rhodes and Jack Marriott are also options. Photo: Steve Ellis
