Why Heskey family will always have affection for Sheffield Wednesday
Jaden Heskey played 20 times in the Championship for The Owls last season
The Heskey family will always keep a close eye on Sheffield Wednesday’s results following Jaden’s loan spell at the club.
The midfielder, 20, arrived on loan from Manchester City in January and was a regular starter in the second-half of the season in the Championship. Although The Owls had plunged into administration and were as good as already relegated by that point, it was still a worthwhile learning experience for the youngster and it will no doubt have opened his eyes to the world of senior football.
Jaden is now enjoying a summer break as he waits to find out what the future holds for him. There has been some early interest in him. Whatever happens going forward, he and his dad Emile, will always have affection for Wednesday from now on.
Emile said: "Both me and Jaden will be keeping an eye on Wednesday’s results next season. It’s funny how many more Wednesday fans there seem to be now that he’s played for them, and it’s been great. I’m very thankful to the club for taking him under their wing and helping him on his journey because he’s now a first-team player and understands what it means to be a first-team player because of Wednesday.”
Emile was capped 62 times by England and won several honours with Liverpool and Leicester City in his career but despite all of his experience, he still gets more nervous watching Jaden than when he was a player himself.
He added: "Watching my son play always makes me more nervous than when I played, which is probably normal. You always want your children to do well, you don’t want things to go badly for them, and you really want to see them show themselves in the light you know they can. In my playing days, it was up to me; now it’s up to Jaden."
Emile was speaking at Grosvenor Casinos Sheffield as part of a World Cup Preview night. He will be appearing next in Reading on June 5. Buy your tickets HERE
