Barry Bannan won Sheffield Wednesday’s Player of the Month award for October, and it wasn’t close…

The Owls skipper was named in the latest League One Team of the Week after his strong showing against Burton Albion over the weekend, and on Wednesday it was confirmed that he’d also picked up the club’s monthly gong as well.

Bannan played almost every minute in a busy October for Darren Moore’s side, putting in some strong performances and picking up two goals and two assists along the way as Wednesday picked up 14 points out of a possible 21.

As well as confirming Bannan’s win – his first since March – it was revealed who finished in second and third place behind him… And it wasn’t a tight affair this time around.

The club said on their official website, “Our Player of the Month vote saw Bannan finish well on top on 55%, with Michael Smith (11%) and Ben Heneghan (10%) taking up second and third, respectively.

“Thank you to everyone who voted and congratulations to the captain!”

Bannan won the club’s Player of the Season award last time out as the Owls reached the playoffs but missed out on promotion, and with nine goals and assists to his name already in 2022/23 there’s a strong chance that he’ll be in the running for a second consecutive year if things carry on as they are.

Wednesday are out of League One action for a couple of weeks now as they turn their attentions to the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, and Moore is targeting progression in an attempt to keep up some momentum.
