The Sheffield Wednesday-linked winger moulded by former Liverpool icon Mo Salah

The Owls are closing in on another signing

Sheffield Wednesday’s potential next signing credits Mo Salah with having a big influence on his young career so far.

The Star understands that reports linking Kieran Morrison, 19, with a move to Hillsborough are true. The right winger, who can also play in a central attacking position, has held positive talks about joining on a season loan.

Wednesday have been searching for a right winger and it now appears they are edging closer to landing their target in Northern Ireland international Morrison, who made his senior debut for his country in June against Guinea. He had also been called-up for the squad for the World Cup play-off semi-final against Italy in March but did not feature.

Morrison, who was at Manchester United as a kid, has already made his senior debut for Liverpool, playing in the Carabao Cup against Crystal Palace last October, after an impressive spell for the under-21s where he was captain. His performances won him the PL2 Player of the Month for January 2026, scoring five goals in four appearances, including a hat-trick against Arsenal. His 14 goals and four assists resulted in him being shortlisted for the PL2 Player of the Season.

During his time at Liverpool, Morrison had taken tips from Salah, who left this summer to join Turkey top-flight side Trabzonspor. With Morrison also a wideman who likes to cut in off the right on his left foot, there was no one better to learn from than the Reds legend who plundered in 257 goals in 442 appearances, winning two Premier League titles and the Champions League.

Morrison, who said the Egypt international helped him the most, told the Belfast Telegraph recently: “Every time that I do something and he thinks I can improve on my type of cross or shot, he always comes and helps me with that. He doesn’t need to, so it just shows me that he’s a really good guy and I appreciate that a lot from him.”

Morrison’s displays last season prompted Liverpool into giving him a new extended contract and the next part of his development could see him link-up with Wednesday. It’s understood that the deal is not done as of yet but suggestions are that it is moving forward. He has previously been linked with Bundesliga side Wolfsburg and Eredivisie outfit Groningen as well as Bristol City, Middlesbrough and Wolves.
