Guidance on Di'Shon Bernard injury status with Sheffield Wednesday post-match sighting outlined

Sheffield Wednesday face a wait on the extent of injury to Di’Shon Bernard.

Early indications on the severity of an injury sustained by Di’Shon Bernard in defeat at Notts County are encouraging.

The Jamaica international was substituted in the 14th minute of the Owls’ 2-0 defeat prompting concern from supporters, with the defender having only recently returned from a 19-month absence owing to a knee injury sustained back in February 2025. Making his third consecutive start having staged-up his recovery in recent weeks, the 26-year-old looked in some discomfort and appeared to be holding a knee, which only further concerned onlookers.

But the issue concerned the opposite knee to the one he damaged in the long-term lay-off and Bernard was seen walking with more ease post-match. He left the field without assistance from the club’s medical staff.

Owls boss Henrik Pedersen said: “This is the opposite knee from where he has had his injury and it was better after the game when he just felt it in the game, but we still wait for assessment to clarify what is the challenge... I cannot say something now, it was not the injured knee and it's very positive and I could see he could walk okay when he came out after the game.”

The injury was one of several setback incidents in an insipid Wednesday performance. Callum Slattery and Jamal Lowe will both face suspension, with Slattery picking up a fifth yellow card of the season and Lowe having been shown a straight red for a lunging tackle on Jacob Bedeau.

Admitting the anger of all involved at the level of performance shown in the defeat, Pedersen suggested their showing further dropped after the 10th-minute injury but refused to make an excuse of it. He said: “I think there was the performance before Dish and after Dish, of course Dish means something but I don't think we can say that the performance was poor because Dish was out. Before Dish was out we were not happy with the performance and of course it was sad.”
