The Owls played well for large periods of the game and had they been a little slicker in the final third, had Ike Ugbo been able to get a cleaner contact on his first half chance or had Yan Valery managed to clear the ball that gifted the Clarets their lead, who knows?
But these are the fine margins in elite football and Wednesday will have little time to wonder with another home clash with Swansea City hot on the heels of this one. Here are our player ratings from an outing against Burnley that was both encouraging and frustrating in equal measure.

9. Olaf Kobacki - 5
Worked his socks off and made a couple of decent interventions against the ball. Didn't have bags of joy going forward. Taken off with half an hour to run, perhaps with future battles in mind. | UGC

10. Djeidi Gassama - 6
Fastest feet outside of a Michael Flateley tribute night - but he didn't manage to make it count. Decision making not razor sharp and seemed to hit the ground a fair bit. | UGC

11. Iké Ugbo - 5
Missed one you can't help but feel he'd have taken with a bandana over his eyes on a few months back. No little effort - things just don't seem to be falling for him at current. | UGC
