Wednesdayites have been treated to a much closer look into the day-to-day goings on with Monk and his team, with the Owls’ social media taking things up a notch in order to let fans get a better idea of who they’re cheering on every week.

The response from supporters, who are understandably pleased at the prospect of getting to know the people representing their team, has been overwhelmingly positive, and Monk says it’s an important aspect for him as a manager.

Speaking to Alan Biggs on Sheffield Live, he said, “I sat with Trevor and the guys in the summer, and knowing not only what we’ll face this season, but also regardless of that, I felt that what we needed to do was show the fans who we truly are.

“I think there’s a lot of times when you just see the players for 90 minutes on a weekend, and you judge them just on that - ‘They’ve had a rubbish game, so they must be a rubbish person’.

“That’s how it kind of works, and I think from experience at Leeds United, where it was very fractured, and there was a lot of disgruntlement between the terraces and the pitch and the ownership. It was about trying to connect that together - a big part of that was bringing the community into it.”

So that’s exactly what they’ve done, with a range of fresh ideas in terms of the content being produced and a closer look into what goes down at Middlewood Road on a weekly basis.

“It’s about making them feel included,” Monk went on to say. “And making them see who we really are. We’re the ones who are representing you, these are the people we are.

“A big part of that is our own content and our channels, and using that to the best effect. Showing who our players are and who I am - they have to feel that they know you.

“If you bump into Kadeem Harris in the street, you want to know he’s got a personality.”
