If Sheffield Wednesday want to beef up their squad before they fly out to Spain they’re going to have to move quickly this week.

The Owls will jet out to Murcia on Saturday as they begin a week-long warm weather camp ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, but as things stand a host of youngsters will be needed to make up numbers considering the size of their first team.

So far the only bit of transfer business from Wednesday has been the re-signing of Reece James following a successful loan last time out, and Xisco Munoz says that he wants to rather be safe with his signings than rush into deals that could end up being ‘mistakes’.

“We will see,” Munoz told The Star. “We know what we need, and sure in a short time they need to come in, but the most important thing is to not have any mistakes. If we want a player we need to check five games, 10 games, the different level of those games - five games is five hours, and I’ve only been here 48 hours.

"For this situation we need to reduce the mistakes about how you can improve the team.”

Wednesday will face Real Murcia on July 18th at Pinatar Arena, with that game set for 7pm UK time, while another game - on July 21st at the same venue - against CD Eldense has not yet been confirmed by the club. That game is provisionally set for 10am UK time.
