Sheffield Wednesday's man of the match highlights one part of his game which is 'lacking'
Louie Barry was a high-profile signing for The Owls this summer
Louie Barry has highlighted one part of his game he wants to improve.
The 23-year-old was a marquee summer signing from Aston Villa, penning a four-year deal. The winger had a memorable day in the 7-2 win against Bromley on Saturday, scoring two and assisting two in a thumping victory at Hillsborough.
Barry has enjoyed lots of success in League One before with Stockport County, scoring plenty of goals, but he has also set himself another target, which requires him to be a less ‘selfish’, he admitted.
“One thing that I want to improve myself this season is getting my assists up,” he explained. “It is something that I've lacked in my career. I've got my goals in my career, but only got about eight or nine assists in my whole career, which is something I really want to improve on, so that means being a little bit less selfish as well, which you have to work on when you want to score so many goals.”
Man of the match Barry assisted the opener against Bromley with a run and low cross for Callum Slattery and he also set-up another for Jamal Lowe, who stabbed in from close-range as Wednesday ran riot against the newly-promoted visitors. It was a productive afternoon for the former Barcelona youngster, who had a loan spell at Sheffield United last season, but he felt he could have perhaps got a couple more assists, too.
Barry added: “I think everyone wants to score, but it feels good as well to help your teammate get a goal. I probably could have passed a couple more times after I was looking for that hat trick, so I gladly apologise to Mace (Burstow) for some of that! I wanted to get involved and scoring that early in the first-half, it was really good.”
