Sheffield Wednesday phones 'hot' on transfers with level of business not ruled out
There are just days left in the transfer window as Sheffield Wednesday look to finalise their squad until January.
Sheffield Wednesday have not ruled out the possibility of bringing more than one loanee in before the closure of the transfer window as they look to bolster their squad ahead of Tuesday’s window closure.
A busy transfer window will shut at 11pm on Tuesday evening, the same night the Owls take on Wycombe Wanderers and look to continue the momentum built from a rampant 7-2 win over Bromley on Saturday. Wednesday have added 16 players to their squad in a transformative summer but will continue to look to do business in the coming days - with the prospect of free agent additions after the window closure remaining a possibility.
Speaking after the goal-laden win over the Ravens, Owls boss Henrik Pedersen kept his counsel on what profile the club were looking for in what could be their final addition of the window. The Dane teased media present at Hillsborough in admitting that a recruitment meeting held in midweek had identified what sort of profile the club are searching for with what could be their final addition of the window - but stopped short of revealing what that profile or position was.
“We are still searching the market to see if there's something we can do, and we are trying to see what is possible,” Pedersen said. “I know Simon's (Wilson, sporting director) phone is hot, and he tries to call when he can.“
Pedersen has previously admitted that Wednesday are operating to within a ‘very, very limited’ proximity to the recruitment restrictions agreed with the EFL in the club’s takeover process. EFL clubs are permitted to sign as many loanees as they like but can name only five in a matchday squad. Liverpool loanee Kieran Morrison became the fourth temporary addition of the window last week.
Asked whether the club are operating on the basis of one final loan addition or whether more than one signing could be completed, the Danish coach continued: “We cannot say more than one, but we have a budget and let's see which player we can find. We have a clear profiling for the player we are searching. There are a lot of question marks right now but we do the best we can.
“Basically, we want five. It's easy to say we will only have five, but if the right players come as a loan possibility, then maybe we don't say no.”
