Sheffield Wednesday youngster gets first significant minutes of season in thrilling comeback

Sean Fusire has got his first notable minutes under his belt this season.
The 21-year-old was a regular feature of Sheffield Wednesday’s side last term, making 35 Championship appearances and 39 in total in all competitions. The youngster probably would have racked up more had it not been for a hamstring injury that ruled him out of six games across January and February.
He earned plenty of praise for his energetic performances towards the end of the campaign, playing 90 minutes on regularly. Fusire came through the ranks as a central midfielder but was shifted to right-back last season, with Henrik Pedersen saying: “Sean had played in the number six position more or less all the time, but I think the right wing-back position is a much better position for him. Defensively and offensively, it is a little bit easier for him to see the picture, to see the tactical pictures. On the ball, it is a little bit easier for him not to have players 360 degrees around him. To have an open body position to look forward, it is a little bit easier when he doesn't have to jump too much between more players as a wing-back or winger.”
Fusire’s only appearance for Wednesday this season came in the EFL Cup win against Bolton Wanderers, coming on for 11 minutes. He has since had a groin injury but is available again now. The full-back played 45 minutes in Zimbabwe’s thrilling 3-2 comeback away win against Sierra Leone in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. They trailed 2-0 after 27 minutes before scoring three goals in the last 18 minutes to complete the turnaround. Zimbabwe play again on Monday against DR Congo.
Should he return from international duty injury-free, Fusire should be back in contention for The Owls, providing competition for Yan Valery and Liam Palmer at right-back. With Wednesday short of wingers, that could be another position that he is utilised in.
Wednesday are back in action against Sunderland under-21s in the EFL Trophy on October 6 before visiting Huddersfield Town in the league on October 10.
