Sheffield Wednesday could face Fernando Forestieri reunion as potential FA Cup opponents confirmed
Sheffield Wednesday will find out who they will face in the first round of the FA Cup when the draw is made on Monday evening.
Sheffield Wednesday could face a reunion with former attacker Fernando Forestieri after Oxford City progressed to the first round of the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon.
The National League North outfit secured their place in Monday evening’s first-round draw after beating National League South side Torquay United 1-0 at Plainmoor. Scott Pollock scored the only goal of the game to seal the Hoops’ place in the first round of the competition for the first time since 2022.
Former Wednesday ace Forestieri, who spent five years at Hillsborough, featured in the second half for the non-league outfit, coming off the bench with 15 minutes remaining. He joined the club earlier this month after spending time training at the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) pre-season camp during the summer.
Wednesday, of course, will enter the FA Cup at the first-round stage this season following their relegation from the Championship last term. Clubs in League One and League Two enter the competition at this stage, alongside the non-league sides still in contention.
Wednesday, who last entered the FA Cup at the first-round stage in 2022/23, have not faced non-league opposition in the competition since taking on Macclesfield Town in the third round in 2013/14. After drawing 1-1 at Moss Rose, Wednesday came out on top in the replay at Hillsborough, winning 4-1.
The draw for the first round will take place at approximately 6.35pm on Monday evening and will be shown live on TNT Sports 1, HBO Max and the TNT Sports YouTube channel. The programme will begin at 6.30pm.
