Sheffield Wednesday wideman makes contract admission over his Owls future after star turn

Marvin Johnson says that he’s not worried about discussions over his Sheffield Wednesday future, insisting that his sole focus is on securing promotion.

Johnson put in a star turn for the Owls earlier this week to help them extend their unbeaten run to 11 games with a win over Fleetwood Town, with the wideman picking up an assist and a goal – as well as making a goalline clearance – in the 2-1 victory.

The 32-year-old has been a key cog in Darren Moore’s Wednesday machine since arriving at the start of last season, and has now picked up seven goals and assists for the club in 2022/23 across all competitions.

He is one of several players who will be out of contract at the end of this season, but he says that that side of things is not something that he’s concerning himself with at this point in time.

When questioned if there had been talks over his future at Hillsborough, Johnson told The Star, “Nah, my head is down focusing on the games, focusing on the points, and obviously focusing on promotion - which is the goal that we all want. That’s the most important thing right now.”

He would, however, jump at the chance to stick around if the opportunity arises.

“Definitely,” he replied after being asked whether he wanted to stay. “I love it here. I’m enjoying my football, I enjoy the boys and the staff, and the fanbase is unbelievable.”
