Sheffield Wednesday press day LIVE - Joe Wildsmith and Darren Moore speak ahead of Bolton Wanderers clash

There was an option there. Something came up for Cam and the club decided to go down that route.

I’m happy to be fighting for a position here and to have a good season that ends in promotion. I’m happy to be competing.

There’s been no conversations as yet - I’m just focused on playing as many games as possible. I’m sure there’ll be a conversation that happens before January - but until them I’m just focus on what I’m doing and seeing what’s wanted by the club.

If the opportunity came up and the opportunity was right then it’d be great to stay, I’m a Sheffield lad, but if it’s not right for me or the club then that’s what it is. That’s a conversation that needs to be had this season.

Certain players are different... With Twitter, it’s just something I’ve never gotten stuck into. I got Twitter and Instagram at the time same, and I leaned more towards Instagram. I went on Twitter the other day when everything else was down!

I try to take no notice of things on social media to be honest though, I focus more on my every day life on social media. I don’t want to attract any comments - good or negative - that I don’t want to see. So I try and stay away from it.

I cut it a bit too short in the summer and for football the ponytail wasnt working so it had to go!

JW on being the older keeper

I took it upon myself to help the lads out and try to help the lads as much as possible.

I;m more than happy to speak to them and get on it if training is dipping or whatever. It’s been good but it’s strange to be the older one.

JW on the keeper union at Wednesday

It’s a weird one for me because I’m the oldest! I’ve always been the youngest. It’s been nice, we all push each other and have a laugh and banter around the place.

But first and foremost we work hard and we push each other to be better. It’s a good group with Adriano in charge of the goalkeepers.

Everyone has different ideas and methods but it’s good to enlighten yourself to different situations. It’s been a good learning curve - it’s my first foreign coach and he has lots of different ideas.

They’re an expansive team who like to attack at all costs. It’s going to be a challenge to stand up and match that and take it away from them.

We’re ready for that and open to the challenge. There will be shots, crosses and attacking opportunities for them and we’ll give it back.

We’re up for the game and positive to go and take three points really.

It wasn’t something you want to hear and it’s not something that’s nice in that sense.

We had conversations, the gaffer and the goalie coach. There were reasons why, Cam hadn’t played for a good while due to injury and that opened the door for another goalkeeper to come in.

It was a battle and I needed to get my head around that. I needed to do the right things and wait for an opportunity. It was about getting my head round that if needed I was read to go.

JW on being number two cont.

As a keeper you know there are times you’re not playing and managers tend not to chop and change as much as an outfield player.

It’s about being mentally ready when you need to be called on and take your opportunity to help the team out.

This season knowing I wasn’t going to be playing from the start, if I was needed I wasn’t going to let anyone or myself down. If that leads to a run of games, it leads to a run of games. If it doesn;t it’s about me doing what I need to do.

I’ve needed to build that mentality from a young age. It’s something you need to go through as a goalkeeper.

I spoke to him not long ago. He’s enjoying life down there, being down in the seaside it’s a different way of life.

He’s getting surfing lessons! It’s good to see him playing. He’s well aware of what’s going on up here.
