Harry Amass’ first goal for Wednesday was a stunner and pulled on many of his finest attributes, but it proved to be the brightest moment of the long away trip for the beleaguered Owls, who head into a much-needed and well-earned international break on the back of defeat.
The Saints had scored twice ahead of Amass’ goal through Carsten Jander and Finn Azaz, with Adam Armstrong adding a finish of real quality to take any wind out of Wednesday sails at the start of the second half.
From there, things became something of a procession as Southampton sat in and Wednesday dragged themselves through efforts to get things going.
Here are our ratings after defeat on the south coast.

9. Svante Ingelsson - 6
Popped up on the left to play a part in some of Wednesday's best moments in the first half. Won physical battles and put himself about. | UGC

10. Bailey Cadamarteri - 7
Back in the starting line-up and keen to make a point. Played with heaps of determination and wrestled his way through to a couple of half-chances. A nuisance throughout. | UGC

11. Charlie McNeill - 6
With Cadamarteri, handed a big chance to step in and step up. A couple of bright moments in the first half but was subbed out on 54 minutes. | UGC

12. Jamal Lowe - 6
On with over half an hour to go. Came in and was able to join things together nicely, dipping in deep to dovetail with Bannan. | UGC
