Harry Amass’ first goal for Wednesday was a stunner and pulled on many of his finest attributes, but it proved to be the brightest moment of the long away trip for the beleaguered Owls, who head into a much-needed and well-earned international break on the back of defeat.
The Saints had scored twice ahead of Amass’ goal through Carsten Jander and Finn Azaz, with Adam Armstrong adding a finish of real quality to take any wind out of Wednesday sails at the start of the second half.
From there, things became something of a procession as Southampton sat in and Wednesday dragged themselves through efforts to get things going.
Here are our ratings after defeat on the south coast.

5. Max Lowe - 6
Looked a little flat-footed for the second goal, which came through his channel. Got himself through the game smartly enough but was among a very many to look understandably jaded in moments - that said, he got forward to provide some bright late moments. | UGC

6. Harry Amass - 8
Reyt good at footy. What a magnificent first goal in senior football that showed all sorts of attributes. A classy prospect. | UGC

7. Barry Bannan - 5
Looked generally frustrated and a little leggy - as is completely understandable in a week such as this. Yellow'd in the first half for an accumulation of fouls - maybe harshly. Huge effort as always but not his day. | UGC

8. Yan Valery - 6
Drove the ball forward well on occasion and kept things ticking over. Not the wrecking ball defensive prospect we have seen in matches this year but combative nonetheless. | UGC
