Sheffield Wednesday owner David Storch issues update after having surgery

David Storch says he is ‘feeling great’ after having surgery.

Earlier this month the Sheffield Wednesday owner, who completed a takeover of the club in May, explained that he would not be at Hillsborough for a couple of months because of a back operation. In his absence, his son Michael has been attending games.

The American businessman has now provided a positive update, posting on social media: “Wednesdayites… just a quick update to let you know the surgery went really well and I’m feeling great! Couldn’t have timed it much better with the international break and now it’s all about attacking the recovery and getting myself back to Sheffield as soon as possible.”

It has been non-stop for Storch and the Arise group since taking over at S6, signing 18 new players and starting the process of transforming the club off the pitch, with improvements made to the stadium and training ground, with more than £9m invested. On the pitch, The Owls are second in League One after the first seven games of the season, averaging more than 30,000 for home matches and selling out away. Including the final game of last season against West Brom, it is the first time since 1990/91 that Wednesday have recorded five consecutive attendances above 30,000.

A communication from the club this week described it as a ‘whirlwind period of progress’ and ‘one of the busiest summers in the club’s history.’ The club said: “Much of the work is visible to supporters and, while some may not be so apparent, the club continues to move apace behind the scenes with developments in all areas. The assemblance of an experienced executive team, huge sums invested in renovation work, record season ticket sales and the redevelopment of premium spaces – years of work undertaken in a matter of months.”

In his post, Storch thanked fans for their messages of support and said it meant a ‘great deal’, adding: “I’ll be following everything from afar and already counting down the days until I’m back at Hillsborough with our incredible SWFC family. Plenty to look forward to… keep pushing, keep believing and I’ll see you all soon! God bless and thank you! David.”
