Henrik Pedersen gives Zain Silcott-Duberry transfer update after latest Sheffield Wednesday trial
Sheffield Wednesday have one available free agent slot to fill following the recent exit of Yan Valery.
Sheffield Wednesday manager Henrik Pedersen has confirmed the club is yet to make a final decision on trialist Zain Silcott-Duberry.
After spending time at Middlewood Road prior to the end of January transfer window almost a fortnight ago, The Star revealed last week the former Chelsea youngster had been invited back to the Owls’ training base for Pedersen and his coaching staff to have another look at him.
Recruitment restrictions mean that Wednesday are currently limited to bringing in just one free agent signing. A space in their squad became available last week after Yan Valery joined Swiss side BSC Young Boys on loan for the rest of the season.
Pedersen confirmed at Thursday’s pre-Millwall press conference that Silcott-Duberry was spending three days (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) training with the Owls amid the possibility of potentially adding the attacker to their squad.
With those three days worth of training now done and dusted, Wednesday are mulling over a decision whether to offer the 20-year-old, who was last contracted to Olympiakos, a contract.
Pedersen gives update on Silcott-Duberry situation
Speaking after his side’s 2-1 defeat to Millwall on Saturday, Pedersen told The Star: “We have not made any decision now, we have seen him three days in training, and now we have this game behind us, we'll make a decision on what we will do.
“So we have not made any final decision.”
Asked if he will train again with the Owls this coming week, Pedersen confirmed the club is now in a position where it needs to make a decision, adding: “We will make a decision and then we will see.”
Although Silcott-Duberry has spent time at Middlewood Road, he is not the only free agent Wednesday are looking at, with Pedersen stressing the importance of getting this move right.
He added: “We are watching a lot of players, but free agents, and to find something, it has to make sense to do something. So we are using a lot of time to make the right decision.”
