Sheffield Wednesday's League one rivals face losing youngster as duo 'eye' Stockport County star

All the very latest transfer rumours from League One ahead of the summer transfer window opening on June 15.

Sheffield Wednesday will be hoping to get their League One rebuild up and running once the summer transfer window officially opens next week.

The summer window will open for business on Monday, giving clubs in England a little under three months to get their squads finalised for the 2026/27 campaign. A massive rebuild is required at Hillsborough, of course, following the Owls’ relegation to the third tier.

Wednesday’s squad was butchered last summer and again, albeit to a lesser extent, in the mid-season window, meaning Owls boss Henrik Pedersen is desperate to bring in fresh blood. Almost every area of the squad is in desperate need of attention ahead of August’s big kick off.

Ahead of the window opening for business in just under a week’s time, here are some of the latest headlines concerning Wednesday’s League One counterparts...

Latics facing Bettoni exit

Talented Wigan Athletic youngster Harrison Bettoni is set to join Chelsea on a free transfer, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, as cited by The72. It is reported the Londoners have ‘won the race’ for the 18-year-old, who primarily plays as an attacking-midfielder.

Bettoni is available as a free agent this summer, but Wigan will reportedly be due ‘training compensation’ from Chelsea. He made 27 appearances for Wigan in 2025/26, chipping in with four goals, including a brace on his League One debut after stepping off the bench to help the Latics beat AFC Wimbledon 2-1 back in November.

It has been reported that a string of English clubs have been linked with his signature in recent months. Italian outfit AC Milan have also been credited with interest.

Amid his contract status, Wigan will be hoping to secure a compensation fee from Chelsea, but if the two clubs cannot reach an agreement over that sum, it will be decided by a tribunal.

Stockport face fight to keep Diamond

Stockport County look as though they could have a fight on their hands to try and keep winger Jack Diamond this summer. The winger, according to a report by Football Insider, is being ‘eyed’ by both Lincoln City and Portsmouth.

The former Harrogate Town man enjoyed an impressive season in League One in 2025/26, scoring six goals and registering seven assists in the league alone to help Stockport reach the League One play-off final.

It is claimed Lincoln, who stormed their way to the League One title this season, and Portsmouth are looking to try and strike a ‘cut-price’ deal for the former Sunderland man ahead of him going into the final 12 months of his contract at Edgeley Park. Stockport reportedly wanted £1million for him back in January, but the report states his price tag has now ‘dropped’ amid his contract status.

Stockport are experiencing a summer of change following the exit of manager Dave Challinor and chief executive Simon Wilson. The latter is expected to be unveiled as Wednesday’s new sporting director sooner rather than later.
