'Stay tuned!' - David Storch shares exciting Sheffield Wednesday update as 2026/27 preparations continue
Sheffield Wednesday’s staff are working hard behind the scenes to get the club ready for the 2026/27 League One campaign.
Sheffield Wednesday chairman David Storch has said there is currently “lots of exciting stuff going on” at Hillsborough as preparations continue ahead of the 2026/27 League One campaign.
Storch’s US consortium - Arise Capital Partners - completed their purchase of the club at the start of May, marking the beginning of a new era at Hillsborough. Staff are understood to be working at speed to implement improvements and get things ready for this summer and the season ahead.
Chief executive David Bruce, who was first introduced to Wednesday’s supporters on the pitch ahead of the 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion on the final day of the season last month, is leading the challenge on the ground in S6. He is the Owls’ first chief executive since Katrien Meire left the club back in February 2019.
Although updates have slowed in the past couple of weeks or so, it is not because of a lack of activity at Hillsborough. Everyone is working at pace to try and get things ready in time for the new season.
The transfer window will open on June 15, meaning that should trigger an upturn in activity. Wednesday are still yet to formally appoint incoming sporting director Simon Wilson, meaning his arrival should see the Owls put even more pressure on the accelerator.
Nevertheless, Storch, who has lauded Wednesday’s supporters for their fundraising efforts in support of the Supporters Trust’s fundraising campaign to buy tickets for fans who are facing financial hardship, has insisted plenty is going on behind the scenes.
Posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, Storch said: “Lots of exciting stuff going on at @swfc. And we’re only 35 days in...
“No-one standing still. DB [David Bruce] and team are hard at work. Stay tuned!”
Wednesday’s players are due to report back for the start of pre-season training on June 26, meaning pre-season details are expected to be released sooner than rather later. Wednesdayites are also eagerly anticipating the release of the club’s kits for the 2026/27 amid the return to the iconic owl crest.
