'Proud' David Storch commends 'heart warming' Sheffield Wednesday effort

A monster fundraising effort among Sheffield Wednesday supporters has earned the admiration of the club’s new chairman.

Sheffield Wednesday chairman David Storch has signalled his admiration for a fan fundraising push that will allow under-privileged supporters to experience matches in the coming season.

Late last month the club’s Supporters Trust launched a fundraising page, the proceeds from which will be set aside for match tickets and fan experiences for Wednesday fans who may not otherwise be able to afford them. A remarkable response saw its total break the £35,000 mark after an anonymous donor pledged to double the figure, such was the impression it made on them. At the time of writing the figure is approaching £37,000, with large donations having been received by some of the club’s new owners.

After the Trust played such a role on the frontline of the battle to move Wednesday into new ownership, the new dawn represents new tasks for the fan group, though their £70,000 donation to the club after its fall into administration last year offered the chance for them to offer the sort of opportunities this new push will bring.

The remarkable fundraising push leans into the fan-first ethos chairman David Storch has sought to encourage since taking over the club.

“I’m so proud to be affiliated with this club and community,” Storch posted to his X account. “Hats off to @SWFCTrust for transitioning from fighters to builders. Their efforts to selflessly raise money for those who otherwise wouldn’t be able to attend games is so heartwarming and reassuring. And I’m very proud of the club for stepping up and supporting the effort.

“The entire community should give itself a collective pat on the back for pitching in to make this such a successful and meaningful drive. Just gives so much more meaning to We’re All Wednesday Aren’t We.”
