Sheffield Wednesday are searching for their first external manager in just over three years following the departure of Henrik Pedersen.
The Dane was relieved of his duties on Sunday afternoon, less than 24 hours after some fans had chanted for him to go during and after the Owls’ 2-0 defeat to Doncaster Rovers at the Club Doncaster Sports Village.
The defeat marked the Owls’ second loss in five days, with the team failing to cover themselves in glory in either outing, producing two flat and underwhelming performances.
Attention has now turned to finding Pedersen’s successor, although it remains to be seen who will be tasked with taking Wednesday forward. It remains an exciting time for the club following the takeover by Arise Capital Partners earlier this year.
It is clear that the betting markets do not necessarily provide a reliable indication of the direction the club’s managerial search will take, but they certainly offer a talking point. talkSPORT Bet have provided a list of potential candidates whom Wednesday could turn to in their search for Pedersen’s successor:

5. Darren Ferguson - 16/1
Any mention of Ferguson Jnr to a Wednesdayite will immediately bring to mind the Miracle of Hillsborough in May 2023. Ferguson, of course, was Peterborough United’s manager on the night Wednesday overpowered them to produce the greatest comeback in play-off history. 6. Matt Hamshaw - 20/1
Hamshaw has been placed in temporary charge following Pedersen’s departure, meaning he will oversee Tuesday night’s League One clash with Cambridge United at Hillsborough. Although it remains unclear how long he will remain in the role, it seems highly unlikely that he will be appointed on a permanent basis. | Steve Ellis

7. Karl Robinson - 20/1
Former MK Dons chief Robinson has been out of work since being sacked by Salford City in June. His two-and-a-half-year spell in charge of the League Two club came to an end after they were beaten 3-0 by Notts County in the play-off final. He is vastly experienced in League One, taking charge of over 500 games in the division. | Getty Images

8. Dean Brennan - 25/1
The first manager on the list currently in employment, Brennan has Barnet sitting second in League Two after winning six of their opening 11 games this season. The 46-year-old has been in charge at The Hive since June 2021, guiding the club back into the Football League as National League champions in the 2024/25 season.
