Sheffield Wednesday are searching for their first external manager in just over three years following the departure of Henrik Pedersen.
The Dane was relieved of his duties on Sunday afternoon, less than 24 hours after some fans had chanted for him to go during and after the Owls’ 2-0 defeat to Doncaster Rovers at the Club Doncaster Sports Village.
The defeat marked the Owls’ second loss in five days, with the team failing to cover themselves in glory in either outing, producing two flat and underwhelming performances.
Attention has now turned to finding Pedersen’s successor, although it remains to be seen who will be tasked with taking Wednesday forward. It remains an exciting time for the club following the takeover by Arise Capital Partners earlier this year.
It is clear that the betting markets do not necessarily provide a reliable indication of the direction the club’s managerial search will take, but they certainly offer a talking point. talkSPORT Bet have provided a list of potential candidates whom Wednesday could turn to in their search for Pedersen’s successor:

1. Dave Challinor - 1/8
The clear favourite to succeed Pedersen at Hillsborough, former Stockport County boss Challinor has been out of work since leaving Edgeley Park in June. He spent five years at Stockport, guiding the club from the National League to the brink of the Championship. He is also well known to Wednesday sporting director Simon Wilson. | Getty Images

2. Rob Edwards - 14/1
Former Middlesbrough and Luton Town boss Edwards has been out of work since leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers in June. Two of his last three managerial roles have been in the Premier League, meaning a move to Hillsborough would represent an ambitious appointment for Wednesday. | Getty Images

3. Sean Dyche - 14/1
Dyche has been available since his four-month spell in charge of Nottingham Forest came to an end in February. He has recently been linked with the Crystal Palace job, making a move to Hillsborough to succeed Pedersen seem unlikely. | Getty Images

4. Paul Heckingbottom - 16/1
Heckingbottom was sacked by Preston North End last month following a poor start to the season. He had been in charge at Deepdale for just over two years. With experience in both League One and the Championship, he could be considered a realistic option to succeed Pedersen. He also represented Wednesday during his playing career. | Getty Images
