Birmingham City make decision on talented striker after recent Sheffield Wednesday trial
Birmingham City youngster Frank Tattum recently enjoyed a successful trial period with Sheffield Wednesday.
Birmingham City have recalled recent Sheffield Wednesday trialist Frank Tattum from his loan spell at Leamington FC, the non-league club has announced.
Tattum, who recently had a week’s long trial with the Owls, joined Leamington on a youth loan deal in December and scored five goals during his time with the National League North outfit.
It was confirmed by Leamington on Friday morning that Birmingham have made the decision to recall the youngster ahead of the end of the season. He made 22 appearances during his time with the Warwickshire-based club.
“Frank Tattum has been recalled by his parent club, Birmingham City,” Leamington said in a post on their X (formerly Twitter) page.
“We'd like to thank Frank for all his efforts in the gold and black, and wish him the very best for the future!”
Tattum was at Hillsborough as recently as last week, spending time on trial with Wednesday. After coming off the bench and scoring in the Under-21s’ 2-0 victory over Wigan Athletic at the Brick Community Stadium last Tuesday, the striker started last Friday’s narrow 2-1 defeat to Cardiff City at Hillsborough.
Although he was unable to get himself on the scoresheet for the second game running, the 20-year-old offered flashes of quality at the top end of the pitch, regularly combining with Zain Silcott-Duberry, who scored Wednesday’s equaliser in the second half.
Tattum is approaching the end of his two-year contract at Birmingham and is understood to have a year’s extension on the deal, though indications are at this stage that it won’t be exercised by the Championship outfit.
The prospect of Tattum becoming a free agent this summer would open the door for Wednesday to bring him to Hillsborough on a permanent basis should they wish to. However, the prospective ownership group will have to be in place before the Owls can make any firm decisions on this summer’s recruitment plans.
Tattum has been on Birmingham’s books since the age of eight, establishing himself as one of their most consistent goalscorers throughout the age groups they have had in recent years. He has never made a senior appearance for the Blues.
