Sheffield Wednesday handed big injury boost - but George Brown's not quite ready

Sheffield Wednesday have been handed a big defensive boost with the news that Max Lowe is back available for the game against Hull City.

Lowe has been missing for the Owls since the end of December, with his last game coming against Ipswich Town on the 20th. His absence has been a big blow for Wednesday given his performances in blue and white, but he’s now on the verge of making his return to action.

The 28-year-old has been spotted back in training recently, and today it was confirmed that he is in contention for the trip to Hull - although it seems unlikely that he’ll go straight into the starting XI at the MKM Stadium.

Speaking to the media today, Owls boss, Henrik Pedersen, said, “Yes, he’s back available… It’s fantastic, Max has been a very important part of the last few years, and of course it’s a big asset to the squad that he’s back again.

“Firstly, he’s strong for the culture, and that means something with regards to him being back in daily training and dressing room. But also for our backline it’s a good asset to put in, so we can change things little bit. It’s all positive.”

Another player spotted back on the grass this week was young striker, George Brown, who has also spent a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to injury. For him, though, he’s not quite ready to return to the field of play in competitive action just yet.

“It’s going really, really well,” Pedersen added. “We hope that the Tuesday after the Leicester game (April 7th vs Wigan Athletic) that he can play his first minutes in the U21s. Everything is going in the right direction, and we hope to bring him back up to this level so that he can get maybe 45 or 60 minutes in that game. After that he’ll soon be part of the first team again.”

Wednesday face the Tigers on Saturday before heading into the final international break of the 2025/26 campaign, and the time off will hopefully give SWFC a chance to get a few more people available for action once more.
