'Hopefully' - Sheffield Wednesday youngster outlines Northern Ireland wish after landing international call-up
Promising Sheffield Wednesday youngster Devlan Moses is setting his sights on making his debut for Northern Ireland’s Under-21s after receiving his first call up at this level earlier this week.
The striker, 20, has been in excellent form for Wednesday’s U21s in recent weeks, scoring a very impressive ten goals in his last six appearances, including hat-tricks against both Fleetwood Town and Huddersfield Town respectively.
Moses’ form for the U21s has seen him rewarded with opportunities for the first-team this season, making six appearances for Henrik Pedersen’s side. He was awarded his debut in Wednesday’s 3-0 defeat to QPR at Loftus Road on January 4.
Earning ten minutes off the bench against Ipswich Town last weekend, Moses will now be hoping to take his impressive run of goalscoring form onto the international stage with Northern Ireland’s U21s for the first time. He has previous international experience at U19s level.
Having forced his way into Northern Ireland U21s boss Tommy Wright’s plans, Moses now has ambitions of storing “as many minutes as possible” under his belt in their upcoming European Championship qualifiers against Germany and Lativa.
“I've been involved in the 19s set-up a few times, missed a few camps due to injuries, but it's just nice to see my name in the 21s squad and the recognition I get in the national team,” Moses told Wednesday’s club website.
“As a family, it was a proud day to receive the call-up and hopefully I’ll get as many minutes as possible in the games playing Germany and Latvia. They should be really good tests and further experiences to add to my many this season.
“I've still got lots to improve on as a player and a person and every day I’ll keep working at it. I feel I've done well as a scholar and in my first couple of years as a pro, I had a little injury at the start of this season, but since November, I've hit the ground running.”
The Northern Ireland youngsters take on Germany in Braunschweig on March 27 before travelling to Latvia on March 31.
