Sheffield Wednesday manager's message after win against Wycombe Wanderers
SWFC have started the season with three wins out of four...
Owls boss Henrik Pedersen was happy with Sheffield Wednesday’s output in both boxes in their win against Wycombe Wanderers, but says they ‘want more’ in the coming weeks.
Wednesday came from behind to win 2-1 at Adams Park, a victory that lifts them to second in the League One table after four games. After falling behind to Cauley Woodrow’s sixth-minute opener, goals from Louie Barry and Jamal Lowe turned the match in The Owls’ favour before half-time.
After riding out some pressure from the hosts, Wednesday could have extended their lead with Lowe, Yan Valery and Kieran Morrison all going close.
“Today we create a great lot,” Pedersen said. “We have scored more goals, and it's a positive that again, in a good basic day that we create so much, we give less away in an open game again, we gave few chances away and set pieces.
“Today we showed a top performance in all the basic things. We were 1-0 down and came strong back again and then we worked ourselves into the game. We scored for 2-1 and in the end the boys kept on working really hard as a team and all stayed together. It makes me happy that in a not dominant day we can bring all the basic things and then have our away win. It was good basic performance, but next time we want more.”
Wednesday are back on the road on Saturday lunchtime when they travel to Peterborough United. The team will be backed by a sold-out away end of just under 4,000 Owls fans. Peterborough, who are 17h after one win, one draw and two defeats so far, were held to a goalless draw by Stevenage on Tuesday night.
Praising the fans, Pedersen added: “How we stayed together as fans and players, it was amazing and a big reason why our boys keep on to have energy, keep on fighting, keep on staying together. So, big thanks to the fans.”
