Sheffield Wednesday pair backed to shine by new boss – helpful Owls praised
Sheffield Wednesday duo, Junior Kamwa and Denny Oliver can be a real asset to Brighouse Town during their loan spell, says their new manager.
Kamwa and Oliver joined Brighouse last week on a month-long loan as they go in search of more experience at senior level, with the Northern Premier League Division One East looking to try and climb away from the relegation zone.
It’s not been an easy season for Grant Black and his troops, but he’s hoping that – with a little help from the Owls – they can now start to climb up the table. The pair will be hoping to make their debuts this weekend against Garforth Town after their Brighouse bows at the weekend were put on hold due to the postponement of the clash with Dunston.
Sheffield Wednesday helped out Brighouse Town

Speaking to The Star, the Town boss said, “Now more than ever you’re looking to build relationships with league clubs, and clubs higher up the pyramid to try and get loan players that can help you as a club, budget-wise. It can help balance the books. The quality is always there, of course, which is why they’re at the level that they’re at. It’s about dropping on the right ones with the right attitude and who can deal with the physicality and the pitches where we’re at. It’s very different to the U21s league, which can be a bit more passive…
“Both lads that we’ve got in, I’ve watched them and they do obviously tick a lot of boxes for us. We asked the question, Sheffield Wednesday have helped us massively to be fair to get the deal done financially. I won’t talk about specifics, but they’ve allowed it to happen for not much financial benefit to themselves.”
And as for the players themselves, Black detailed what he was hoping to see them bring to the party. Having spent time scouting the duo prior to their switch, he knows what they have in their respective lockers.
He went on to say, “With Junior, pace is key. You need that at every level, you need it in your team - in all areas, but most importantly in attack. He brings that, and he can play out wide in a three or down the middle in a two if needed. His pace and the way he can stretch teams for us, will give us an outlet. We’ve not always had that this season. His endeavour to run in behind will be a really good asset for us, and hopefully when he can finish the chances that we have been creating. Hopefully with his quality he can put the ball in the net more often than not.
“Denny has real quality on the ball, he’s got an eye for a pass and can get around the pitch. He can anchor the midfield really well. He’s a big boy at about six one or six two, so he can move around well. His quality on the ball is something that hopefully he’ll bring to us, the ability to pick that pass that we maybe haven’t been able to pick before… It can be difficult to find players at this level how can do that consistently, so I’m hoping he’ll do that. He can also play as a full back as well, so that’s a massive bonus.”
Their loan spell will be assessed in a months’ time, and no doubt all parties will be eager to extend their time at St. Giles Road if all goes well.
