Given the club’s results of late, it’s no surprise to see Neil Thompson being linked with the Sheffield Wednesday job on a permanent basis – and he’d certainly have the backing of the players.

‘Thommo’ has overseen a turnaround in fortunes for the Owls since taking over from Tony Pulis on an interim basis, with the club losing just three of nine in all competitions, and both Kadeem Harris and Chey Dunkley have praised the work he’s done.

Swansea City’s Chelsea loanee Marc Guehi: “We know how Sheffield Wednesday play…...

Speaking after Wednesday’s win over Wycombe Wanderers, Harris told the media, "I think everyone would be happy with him getting the job… He's been here for years and he knows the players. As you can see, the results have gone in our favour since he's been here, and I think he knows what he's doing. So yeah, I think everyone would be happy.”

Meanwhile, Dunkley, who is becoming a popular figure at Hillsborough, said this week, “We’ve had three managers, well, three people who’ve taken the job on… So it’s always difficult because different people have different philosophies.

“But one thing I will say is that Thommo has done a great job under difficult circumstances - taking it when he’s taken it.

“Something he has on his side is that he’s been here for a while, and he knows the players - and not just their ability. That works in his favour, because he knows their strengths and weaknesses. And he’s done a good job in getting the lads ready for each game.”

Thompson was due to take charge of his 10th game tomorrow against Swansea City, but that will now come against Stoke City next week.
