Triple injury blow for Sheffield Wednesday, but Andre Green could potentially return soon

Sheffield Wednesday have a frantic February ahead with five games between the 13th and 27th, and it looks like they’ll be without a number of senior players in that time frame.

The Owls have put together a good run of form under Neil Thompson since he took over as interim manager from Tony Pulis, but have done so despite a number of injury concerns for key players.

New signing, Andre Green, missed out on the squad earlier this week due to an Achilles knock, but there’s a slight chance that he could potentially return to face Swansea City this weekend – for Moses Odubajo, Massimo Luongo and Joost van Aken, however, it’d be a surprise to see them back in action this month.

When asked if any players could return this weekend, Neil Thompson told The Star, “I wouldn’t have thought so… Massimo is coming along nicely, but might be another week or two. We’re hoping that it’s maybe not quite as bad as we thought. Andre Green, I don’t think it’s too serious – but whether he makes the weekend is debatable. The others are more long-term issues.”

And with that in mind it may be a while before Van Aken and Odubajo are back in the fold again, with Thompson saying that it’ll be a ‘few weeks’ before they’re able to get back into matters.

He went on to tell the media, “Unfortunately for Joost, he was coming back from injury and turned his ankle in an U23s game while training to get some game time in. That’s not one that’ll see him be fit in the next few weeks I wouldn’t think.

“For Odubaho, I think it might be a wee bit longer than the end of February… It’s quite a serious hamstring tear, but in terms of putting a date on it – I can’t really do that. Every player heals differently, but it wasn’t a straight forward one.”

Wednesday face Swansea at 3pm on Saturday as they look to make it six home wins on the spin, but face a tough task against a Swans side that are yet to lose a Championship game in 2021 so far.
