Exclusive:Critical week ahead as Team Storch press on in pursuit of Sheffield Wednesday purchase
Arise, the consortium looking to buy Sheffield Wednesday, are set for a huge week in terms of their negotiations with the English Football League.
The Star understands that the next few days will be critical for David Storch and his team as they look to move things forward in their pursuit of the Owls, with ‘Arise’ currently in talks with the EFL regarding the -15 points deduction and the wage sanctions that could be in place next season.
There have been concerns that their bid may become untenable should the League stand firm on the deduction and the cap in spending, something that may lead to the consortium walking away.
That being said, this publication is led to believe that Arise are committed to sorting out the matter so that they can press on with their desire of becoming the next owners of SWFC – which they hope to achieve before the end of the current season.
Primary goals for the Consortium involve improving the spend in the stadium, improving the club’s training facilities and putting together a squad that’s properly sustainable. Further sanctions could make it difficult to give those elements the focus that are required.
Wednesday are already relegated into League One, and the worry is that further sporting and financial punishments would effectively condemn them to a second successive drop in divisions come the end of the 2026/27 campaign.
Storch and Co are working hard behind the scenes in order to reach some sort of agreement, and have engaged top football lawyer, Nick De Marco, to lead the handling of any legal matters arising from their conversations with the EFL.
Wednesdayites are patiently waiting for news on the current status of Arise’s progress, and it could be that by the end of this week there is some big news to report one way or another.
