Exclusive:Two more Sheffield Wednesday trialists revealed as Owls look at Premier League youngster
There will be changes at Sheffield Wednesday at every level over the summer, and the club are looking at potential new talents to come on board.
It was reported by The Star on Monday that Wednesday had handed a trial to Derby County striker, James Ward, ahead of his expected departure from Pride Park at the end of the season, with the 18-year-old featuring in the 2-1 defeat to Barnsley last week.
That game also featured two other players on trial, with this publication being led to believe that they are midfielders, Joel Martin and Matty Taylor. The former is currently on the books of Bradford City, while the latter is at Newcastle United.
Several youngsters will join the free agent market in a few months’ time when their respective scholarships come to an end, and Wednesday have had success in the past when it comes to picking up players that weren’t offered their first professional deals elsewhere.
Martin, a defensive midfielder, featured in the FA Youth Cup for the Bantams this season, while central midfielder, Taylor, has played in the U18 Premier League and UEFA Youth League as well.
It remains to be seen how long the trio will be given to impress at Middlewood Road before a decision is made, but with plenty of S6 exits on the cards come the end of June, the youth staff in Hillsborough will be eager to add to their ranks ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
Wednesday’s U18s have 10 games left between now and the end of the season, with the final stretch starting with a trip to Florence Park to face Colchester United later this week.
