Sheffield Wednesday boss pleased they lived up to 'big expectations' against Wycombe Wanderers

The Owls have won back-to-back league games

Henrik Pedersen was pleased Sheffield Wednesday lived up to their ‘big expectations’ in their 2-1 win against Wycombe Wanderers.

The Owls fell behind after just six minutes at Adams Park but Louie Barry hit an instant equaliser before Jamal Lowe’s penalty turned the scoreline around before half-time.

Wednesday came under some pressure in the second-half before they wrestled back the momentum at the midway point to see out the game fairly comfortably, securing successive league wins and moving up to second in the League One table.

After thrashing Bromley 7-2 on Saturday, many people would have expected another positive result, but Pedersen knew it would not be as easy as that.

He explained: “We knew after our game on Saturday that we had a big expectation, but my biggest expectation was to bring all the basic things. That we stay together, that we fight, that we run, that we work hard, that we win our dues, that we win our second balls. I think here we were really, really strong today in all the basic things.

“We were not as dominant in our pressing. We were not as dominant on the ball, but we were still solid, and we still created more chances than only the two goals. So a good culture, a winning performance, and I think a deserved win.”

Pedersen said it was ‘disappointing’ to fall behind early on but he was delighted with how they bounced back so quickly.

He continued: “I think we had a good beginning of the game, and then they scored. But the mentality when we started after the goal was exactly the same as before. And I like this mentality that we don't lose focus. We stayed with the game-plan. We stayed with the culture that we're going to score, that we believe, and we trust everything. And then how we came back, it was very strong. I think the last 20 minutes of the game, I think we generally controlled.”

Wednesday are back in action on Saturday away at Peterborough United.
