Sheffield Wednesday fans handed intriguing advice ahead of Honolulu celebration

A sea of colour is set to envelope Hillsborough on Saturday as Sheffield Wednesday fans wave goodbye to a season from hell.

Supporters who have got their hands on a ticket for Saturday’s ‘Honolulu Wednesday’ end of season celebration have been given some intriguing advice as the countdown continues.

Hopes remain that Saturday’s match, which will see West Bromwich Albion make the trip to S6 with their safety already confirmed, will double-up as an unveiling of the club’s new owners, the end of administration and a moving-on from Dejphon Chansiri’s failed Owls ownership. Work on takeover proceedings continue.

Fans have been encouraged to don ‘Hawaiian’ outfits for the occasion, which is themed ‘Honolulu Wednesday’ in-keeping with the terrace chant that has provided much of the backdrop to this season. The campaign has yielded a solitary win inside 90 minutes across both league and cup football, but will finish with the Wednesday crowd again turning out in huge numbers.

Intriguingly, club correspondence has advised fans to get to Hillsborough ‘as early as possible’, with a ‘memorable day’ promised. A club statement read in part: “On the back of the most testing of seasons, a completely sold-out stadium is testament to the most special of fanbases. It promises to be a memorable day and supporters without a ticket are advised to keep a close eye online for potential returns/tickets released from unresolved baskets.

“A key message on the day is for fans to arrive as early as possible. Please make your way to Hillsborough and to your seats at the earliest opportunity to avoid queues on the day for a matchday not to be missed!”

On the field, the milestone ambition of achieving the three points required to avoid becoming the first EFL side to finish a season on minus points remains, as does a desire to bounce back from a desperately disappointing performance in their last away day of the season at Oxford United last weekend.

“There is such a big motivation,” Owls boss Henrik Pedersen told The Star on Tuesday evening. “The boys have done it so well for such a long time, and then the game in Oxford was a game how we don't want it to be. And also when I spoke with the players today, I made it clear this is not how we want to be.

“Now we have one game left, we have a lot to do. We have a lot to do from today into Saturday, because we want to have this home win, we want to come on zero, and we want to make a top performance in front of a full house stadium, so all the fans can be proud of what you have done, guys. So yes, we have a lot to do, and it could be amazing.”
