Sheffield Wednesday play host to Plymouth Argyle in what feels like a big game for Darren Moore’s Owls.

It’s been a long while since Wednesday were in action at Hillsborough, and this afternoon’s encounter will be their first home game of 2022 as they look to try and get off to a winning start against a Plymouth side that have already beaten them 3-0 on two occasions this season.

Moore is hoping that a few faces will be back in the side after suspension and injury, with the likes of Massimo Luongo and Josh Windass apparently in contention for a starting berth once again – who will get the nod remains to be seen, but we’ll find out around 2pm.

Sheffield Wednesday v Plymouth Argyle LIVE

Key Events

  • Wednesday are back at Hillsborough for the first time in 2022
  • Plymouth have had the Owls’ number this season
  • Darren Moore is desperate to get winning again

Mendez-Laing is having fun

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing is so far having the best game of his Wednesday career so far. He’s causing all sorts of problems down the left, and just cut in to fire a shot at Cooper on his right foot.

It’s parried away, and then Plymouth clear the danger. Much better from the Owls.

Well cleared with a big header.

A bit of excitement building as Wednesday seem to start turning the screw a bit. Mendez-Laing involved again as he twists and turns in the Plymouth box - he gets a couple of shots off, but they’re both blocked.

Wednesday definitely having the better of the exchanges so far.

First real threat of a goal here at Hillsborough, and it’s Jack Hunt who fires it into the side netting after being teed up by Sylla Sow. He caught it well enough, but it’s off target.

Bright spark there though, and that’s a good sign.

Not much happening yet

Plenty of turnovers in possession, but it’s all happening in the middle of the field really. Wednesday having a fair bit of the ball, but neither team has threatened yet.

Wednesday kick off at Hillsborough, and they’re playing away from the Kop.
