The Owls’ U18s and U23s were back at work last week in preparation for the start of the campaign in around a months’ time, and there is a fresh batch of talented teens eager to try and impress after starting their two-year scholarship with Wednesday.

The new arrivals are Caelen Kilheeney, Jenson Whitham, Fuad Sesay, Leojo Davidson, Danny Wassell, Filimon Asfha and Josh Ashman, and Academy manager, Steven Haslam, is pleased to have them on board.

He told the club’s official website, “It’s an exciting time for the boys and they should all be proud of starting their scholarships at the club. We’re pleased with how they have integrated so far, some of the players are local, others in digs, and we’ve had over a week of good work with them.

“Now we look forward to helping them develop as players – they know it’s a demanding programme and the hard work starts here. They now have a huge opportunity to develop as players and people at Sheffield Wednesday.”

After returning at Stage 1, they stepped into stage two this week, meaning that the youngsters can finally train as a group again, with contact, as they step up their preparations.

All of the new recruits will be eager to feature on Friday morning as the club’s U18s face Rotherham United in a behind-closed-doors training game against Rotherham United at Sheffield Hallam.
