Nuhiu has become a cult figure in Sheffield over the course of the best part of the last decade, scoring some iconic and dramatic goals for the club on his way to becoming the first Wednesday player since Marcus Tudgay to reach his half-century.

Now though, according to The Star’s sources, Nuhiu has played his last game in blue and white despite talk of a possible renewal, with the big Kosovan not set to return to Middlewood Road with the rest of the Owls team later this week.

It is understood that Nuhiu had been open to remaining at the club after developing a big love for Wednesday, the city and the supporters, but it would appear that the time has come for a parting of ways.

The Kosovo international is said to have already attracted interest from elsewhere in the Championship as well as from overseas following the expiration of his contract in South Yorkshire, and he is not expected to be short of suitors as he weighs up the next move in his career.

Owls manager, Garry Monk, spoke highly of Nuhiu and Kieran Lee last month, praising their character after they stuck around for the fight at the end of the 2019/20 season, but for Nuhiu at least, his brace at Fulham are set to be the last goals he scores for the club.

Monk said last month, “They both extended their contracts which is great, they’re the two that did it and they’ve been fantastic with me… Extending their contracts showed how much they were committed to the club and we all know what their history is with the club and everything they’ve brought to it.”

There is, however, still hope for Lee, with The Star reporting recently that there was interest in a possible renewal from both parties ahead of the start of the 2020/21 season.

Nuhiu will leave some big shoes to fill, quite literally.
