The Owls were beaten 2-0 by Coventry City as they remained well and truly stuck in the Championship relegation zone, with Thompson’s unbeaten league start coming to an end after a lacklustre display at St. Andrews.

Ahead of kick off in Birmingham it was reported that former favourite for the job, Paul Cook, had turned down a short-term offer to take over the role at Hillsborough until the end of the season, but Thompson said that he was unable to comment on that.

He told The Star when asked about Cook, “It’s not something I can comment on or know anything about… Speculation is speculation, it is what it is and it’s always going to happen at football clubs.”

Meanwhile, on the topic of further possible incomings to add to the signings of Andre Green and Sam Hutchinson, ‘Thommo’ replied, “We’ll see what happens in the next few days… Discussions are taking place on one or two players, but as soon as we find anything out you’ll be the first to know.”

There is less than a week left of the January transfer window before it closes on Monday evening, and fans will be hoping to get at least one or two fresh faces through the door that could come in to help with their current troubles – especially in front of goal.

Along with transfer speculation, the club’s managerial search continues as we approach almost a month since the decision to fire Tony Pulis, and supporters of the club will be eager to get some sort of clarity on the way forward as Dejphon Chansiri seemingly continues to weigh up his options before making an appointment.
