Middlesbrough v Sheffield Wednesday LIVE: Owls lose but hope remains (somehow)
Key Events
- Wednesday won last time out against Blackburn Rovers
- A defeat, and a win for Derby, would send them down
- The Owls will be without Darren Moore once again
Paterson has the ball in the net
Superb finish in the turn at an angle but he’d already barged keeper Archer out of the way to get to that position. Psoitive start again by Wednesday

Half Time - Boro 1 Owls 1
Well they’re still alive and you have to wonder how, in some ways. Wednesday had started well but then shot themselves in the foot when Borner, who’s had something of a nightmare first half gave the ball away and allowed Bolasie the opportunity to opening the scoring. From there the Owls were dreadful, lacking composure and panicking almost every time they were on the bal.
However they were given a lifeline when Green tricked his way into the box and was tripped, allowing Windass to equalise from the spot.
Lees has had to come off with what looks like a very serious injury but to his credit Osaze Urhoghide looked very lively when he came on for the final few minutes. Derby are leading 1-0 and the Owls are still fighting. It’s not over yet
Tom Lees injury
Lees went up for a header and landed awkwardly on his ankle. The stretcher has come on and he’s coming off. Osaze Urhoghide is coming on.
That’s a huge blow for Wednesday. It looks quite serious and there was a scream from the Owls defender. His season looks like it could well be over
That’s the lifeline they needed
It was great work from Green to earn the penalty, Windass puts it into the bottom corner but just as a posiitve comes in, news filters through that Derby have taken the lead against Birmingham
PENALTY!
Green with some neat feet takes him into the box, probably should have had a shot earlier but held on and was tripped.
10 minutes to go in this half
Wednesday need to just get to half time and calm themselves down. They’d been doing ok until that goal from Bolasie and since then, knowing their record when going behind, they look like rabbits in headlights at times.
