Wednesday returned from Luton with a 1-0 victory in an FA Cup third round replay last season courtesy of an Atdhe Nuhiu goal, their first win on the road against the Hatters since March 1989 when a David Hirst effort was good enough to secure all three points for Ron Atkinson’s side in the old Division One.
So, ahead of this evening’s clash against relegation-threatened Luton, we have taken a look back at the Owls side which last won at Kenilworth Road in a league game.
1. Chris Turner
Sheffield-born Turner had two spells at Hillsborough, clocking up 166 appearances for the club where he began his career in 1976. He left Wednesday in 1979 and had stints at Sunderland and Manchester United before returning to the Owls in 1988. He helped Wednesday secure promotion back to the top flight in 1990–91 and was a member of Ron Atkinson's side which defeated United 1-0 in the 1991 League Cup final. Turner spent two years as Wednesday manager from 2002-2004. He is currently chairman of Wakefield AFC. Photo: Chris Holt
2. Lawrie Madden
Madden played for Wednesday between 1983 and 1991, scoring two goals in 212 appearances for the club. The Hackney-born defender also starred for eight other clubs, including Mansfield Town, Boston United, Charlton Athletic, Millwall, Leicester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Darlington and Chesterfield. After hanging up his boots in 1996, Madden embarked on a career in the media and lecturing in sports journalism and PR. He is currently a director of Madden Strategic Consultancy Ltd. 3. Wilf Rostron
Rostron made just seven appearances for the Owls under Ron Atkinson in 1989. He is among a select band of players to have left Wednesday for city rivals United, leaving for a loan spell at Bramall Lane in September 1989 which was later made permanent. Rostron is best remembered for being part of Graham Taylor's Watford side which was promoted to the top flight in 1982 and reached the FA Cup final against Everton two years later. He also played for hometown club Sunderland, Arsenal and Brentford in a career spanning 18 years. Rostron went on to run his own furniture business. Photo: Simon Miles
4. Alan Harper
Liverpool-born Harper played just 32 times for the Owls after joining from Athletic Bilbao. He is best remembered for two spells at Everton, where he clocked up 148 appearances between 1983-88 and 1991-93. Harper, who scored against Wednesday in Everton's 2-1 FA Cup semi-final win in 1986, also counts Liverpool, Manchester City, Luton Town and Burnley as former clubs. He returned to Anfield in 2010 as a scout under Roy Hodgson. Photo: Getty Images
