Dunkley has had a difficult first campaign with the Owls since joining from Wigan Athletic, with injuries hindering a lot of his progress in what has not been an easy one for anybody at Hillsborough.

And while Moore says that the likes of Massimo Luongo, Moses Odubajo and Cameron Dawson are unlikely to feature again before the 2020/21 campaign is out – there is a chance for the defender.

Speaking to The Star today, the Wednesday manager said, “By the time they get to the level in terms of the contact with the team, we just think the season will have run out of legs for them… In weeks to come you might hear of them being back on the training ground, they’ll need the volume of twisting in turning, of match minutes, of U23 games – because of all that, I don’t envisage them being back.

“Maybe the one who could get back in is Chey Dunkley… He’s the one most likely, because if he can keep developing over the next couple of weeks then he could get back in – he’s at more of an advanced stage.”

He also gave an update on the current squad, saying. “The two that are back in and around, but need some more volume, are Joost and Fizz. They’re back, and at this stage of the season any more bodies are welcomed. With the run-in, and the games, I want as many bodies as we can on the training ground.

“They’re fit, but they’re players that need more volume after coming back in in the last week. They’ll need that volume before getting back in contention for the first time.”

Moore explained that there were no fresh injury concerns on the back of the 5-0 win over Cardiff City, meaning that he should be able to pick the same starting XI at Queens Park Rangers if he so wishes.

The Owls have a chance to leapfrog Rotherham United and move into 22nd-place if results go their way this weekend.
