That is, of course, that the Owls retain their place in the Championship once the court case with the English Football League is said and done,. We decided to have a look at SWFC’s record against AFC Bournemouth, Watford and Norwich as the trio prepare for life back in the second tier.
Bournemouth
It’s been a very mixed bag in the 20 meetings that Wednesday have had with the Cherries since their first meeting in 1928. There have been just 12 league encounters between the two sides, and it is AFCB who have had the upper hand in the meetings in recent years.

Chris Maguire scored an injury time penalty to secure a 2-2 draw the last time the teams met in 2015 at the Vitality Stadium, and they’ll be hoping for their first win against Bournemouth since 2014 when they face off next season.
Watford
Wednesday’s first meeting with Watford was relatively recent, with the two teams meeting for the first time only in 1970 (a 2-1 Owls win), but they’ve gone on to play each other 47 times in total, and it’s the Hornets who have come out on top the most, winning 22 of those games and drawing six of them.
And it’s been all Watford in recent years, with Wednesday picking up just three wins in their last 16 encounters, losing four of the last six.

Norwich
The Owls have face Norwich more times than either of the other two promoted outfits over the years, and their first encounter next season will be the 58th game between the two sides since they first met in 1908.
Wednesday have a good record against the Canaries, winning 24 of the 57 games to date, with 16 of them ending in the spoils being shared, and at one stage had won eight games in a row.
Recent years have been more mixed though, with Norwich winning three of the last eight encounters, including a 4-0 rout at Hillsborough in their promotion season of 2018/19, but it was Fernando Forestieri who stole the show in their last meeting with a phenomenal long-range strike in a 2-2 draw at Carrow Road last year.
