Erik Alonso’s Sheffield Wednesday role and what it means for Amadeu Paixao – Dejphon Chansiri explains

Dejphon Chansiri has confirmed that Erik Alonso is now an advisor of his at Sheffield Wednesday, but that doesn’t mean Amadeu Paixao is no longer part of things.

The Star reported earlier this week that Alonso, a Spanish agent who is the president of WBD Sports, has been brought on board to help advise Chansiri going forward, with the view of eventually getting the Owls back into the Premier League.

Today, in a two-hour plus interview with the media, Chansiri spoke on a number of club matters, and The Star asked him specifically about Alonso, asked if he was a shareholder at the club, and whether it meant Paixao was no longer involved.

He replied by saying, “He’s one of my advisors, and has worked with me for a while now… He started helping me with regards to selling players, and with commercial things. He’s just one of the advisors, nothing special.

“He’s not a shareholder, if - or anybody else was going to be a shareholder - he would have to be ratified by the EFL.”

When asked what that meant for Amadeu Paixao, Chansiri said, “He’s one of my advisors, as well as Amadeu.”

On Alonso, went on to say, “I know him through somebody who introduced him to me, because we were talking about sponsors and about selling players.

“If I have advisors - part-time or full-time - it’s good for us, because it gives us more channels. So I’m happy.

“Erik, he is an advisor, the same as anyone else. Whoever does the most good for the club, the more I’ll listen. If Erik does good, helps me sell players and bring good players, of course I will listen more.”

Alonso and his family have experience of running football clubs since the 1990s, and Wednesayites will be hoping that another opinion alongside Paixao’s can lead to some success going forward.

Wednesday returned to winning ways earlier in the week as they saw off Middlesbrough with caretaker manager, Neil Thompson, at the helm, and will now turn their attentions to tomorrow’s clash with Derby County at Hillsborough.
